SPELUCA's Alpine hiking tips
The three-thousander
The tour starts at the Splügen Pass. From there, an unofficially marked but clearly visible path leads along the national border. After point 2751, the ascent follows over the ridge and a steep step to the viewpoint at 3000 m with a cross. The remaining glacier “Vedretta della Spianata” is crossed before continuing along the east ridge to the north-east summit (3279 m).
The classic
Piz Beverin (2,998 m) is one of the most impressive panoramic mountains in the Grisons. From Mathon, the route leads along a dirt road and then over the Beverin gap up to the ridge and finally to the summit with uninterrupted views of the surrounding valleys and peaks of the Adula Alps.
