SPELUCA's top routes

Splügen - San Bernardino Pass - Splügen
A classic pass

From Splügen, the route initially leads leisurely to Hinterrhein before the legendary San Bernardino Pass begins. The even gradient and the many hairpin bends make the ascent to 2,066 metres a highlight. Once at the top, the historic Ospizio and the small lake invite you to take a well-earned rest. Afterwards, the ride back down into the valley to Splügen is almost automatic.

Splügen - Splügen Pass - Monte Spluga - Splügen
From Splügen to the top of the pass

If you start in Splügen, you have around 9 km and 650 metres of altitude ahead of you. The average gradient is over 7%, with a maximum of 11%. The ascent is even and allows you to find your stride.

Tip: At the top of the Splügen Pass, a short detour to the Italian Monte Spluga is worthwhile. An espresso, Italian mountain flair and the view of the surrounding peaks make the tour unforgettable – before heading back to Splügen.

Splügen - Juf - Splügen
Up to the highest village in Europe

From Splügen, this scenic tour initially leads downhill towards Andeer. Shortly before the Rofflaschlucht, the route branches off into the remote Val Ferrera. The path winds steadily uphill, past Ausser- and Innerferrera into the rustic high valley of Avers. The destination: Juf, at 2,126 metres above sea level, the highest settlement in Europe that is inhabited all year round.

Tip: Numerous small refreshment stops make the journey even more enjoyable.

SPELUCA's top route for endurance junkies

Splügen - Chiavenna - Maloja - Julier - Splügen
The royal stage

From Splügen, the route takes you over the historic Splügen Pass to Chiavenna in Italy (333 metres above sea level). This is followed by a long climb through the wild Bergell valley via Vicosoprano and Casaccia up to the Maloja Pass. The ascent to the Julier Pass (2,284 m) – the highest point of the tour – begins in Silvaplana. This is followed by the descent via Bivio to Tiefencastel. After a climb near Alvaschein, the route leads to Thusis and through the Viamala Gorge back to Splügen.

Whether you prefer a stylish apartment with a kitchen or a cozy hotel room – at SPELUCA, you choose how you want to stay. Comfort, charm, and character are always included. And there’s more to discover than just a comfy room: our restaurant with beer garden cuisine, the bar “Bierflut”, and our in-house brewery invite you to relax, indulge, and raise a glass.
